The Public Health Schools team is offering free spaces on the sensory food education programme TastEd.
TastEd provides a practical support session to school staff to deliver sensory food education. The session equips individuals with knowledge and confidence to deliver TastEd lessons to children. Each unique, simple and fun TastEd lesson gives all children the opportunity to explore, enjoy and try fresh fruit and vegetables, using the five senses.
After the training, schools can access a bank of resources including training videos, lesson plans and accompanying PowerPoint presentations. There are at least five lessons available for every year of primary school, and you only require a small amount of fresh vegetables and fruit, minimal equipment and no previous experience of food education to deliver them.
Why are they offering this training?
The latest SAWSS shows that 35% of primary school pupils in Brighton & Hove do not meet the recommendation for eating 5 fruit and vegetables a day. These figures have been declining since 2018.
Pupils with SEND in primary and secondary school, were less likely than their peers to meet the 5-a-day recommendation.
TastEd offers pupils a safe space to develop a positive relationship with healthy foods, and opportunities to try fruit and veg that they wouldn’t usually have.
How to book: The session will take place on Tuesday, 14 January in Brighton & Hove (details tbc), 10am – 12:30pm. You can book on BEEM here.
There are limited spaces, so please do book early. If you would like to book more than one place for your school, please email [email protected] and we can add second team members to a waiting list.
