The rain stopped just in time for the inauguration of the Liz Williams Butterfly Haven at Dorothy Stringer. It was officially opened by the mayor who was joined by students and staff from Dorothy Stringer, Varndean, Balfour, Varndean College6* and Downs View Link College, all of which share parts of the Surrenden Campus, as well as other people who have been involved in the creation and maintenance of the project….and of course the sheep that are currently grazing the site.
Since it’s creation 15 years ago, the butterfly haven has become an important site locally and nationally for butterflies – with over 30 species being found on site. It has also inspired other sites in the city to develop butterfly banks.
Great work from all involved.
