Action Advent – a Climate Conscious Christmas from Dowsn View Link College

Last year Downs View School and Colleges developed an ‘Action Advent’ as part of their climate conscious Christmas. Each working day in December they looked at one area of Christmas and suggested sustainable changes which might actually cost less and certainly cost the planet less. Every staff member was sent an e-mail nudge each day and these were also shared with students and families. Students learnt about them in class, for example the 4 stages of Christmas card emissions from the paper production, printing, postage and decomposition and then encouraged to record digital e-cards. They asked staff to buy sustainable secret Santa gifts from charity shops and to produce carbon positive work in Christmas lessons such as star shaped fat balls for the birds in their communities.   You can view their actions here – Action Advent 2022
